Intuitive, body-based therapy for empathic people to integrate trauma and emotional distress

Natalie Meengs

LMHC, SEP, & NCC

The mind is a powerful resource, but is only one avenue of our experience. That’s why I’m passionate about therapy in partnership with our most primal, honest resource — the body.

Our nervous systems are wired primarily to survive, and, secondarily, to thrive when it’s possible. So if you’re reading this, you’re alive. And that means you are doing something very, very right.

But shifting out of survival is not guaranteed. Issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD present for many people when a traumatic event or overwhelming circumstance is over, yet their nervous system is responding as if it were happening in this moment. What was once a helpful response that kept someone safe in the past gets stuck “on,” impacting their ability to feel safe in the world and in relationships in the present.

Trying to mentally wrestle oneself out of literal survival mode results in more tension in the nervous system, often perpetuating physical and emotional distress. This way of living takes up an enormous amount of energy, leaving those affected exhausted, disconnected from their vitality, and unable to act on their desire to expand.

But there is another way. And it’s not by trying harder, but softer and slower.

In my 10 years of clinical work, I have found that people who identify as highly sensitive or empathic have individualized needs as they process trauma and ongoing emotional distress. They have rich inner worlds that deepen their lived experiences and require a highly-attuned approach that honors their uniquely perceptive nervous system.

It is truly my joy and an honor to be a guide walking alongside my clients as they rediscover the innate integrity and wholeness that lives within them.

Areas of Expertise

  • Highly Sensitive / Empathic People

I have a decade of experience working directly with highly sensitive, empathic people. My clients are often folks who identify as artists, creatives, and/or neurodivergent.

  • Trauma

My clinical choices focus on helping clients process and integrate both acute and complex trauma.

This includes accidents, health/medical harm, sexual assault, and near death experiences (NDE’s) as well as attachment and relational trauma.

  • Body-Based Interventions

With training in both Somatic Experiencing and Brainspotting, my interventions work directly with my clients’ felt sense in-the-moment.

My approach integrates modalities that connect the mind and body and honor the wisdom of their energy and nervous system.
